What is insured
Damage to the garage building caused by any of the following events: accidental damage; fire (including subterranean fire), explosion, lightning or earthquake; smoke; aircraft or articles dropped from them; theft or attempted theft; impact by road vehicles, trains or animals; riot, civil commotion; malicious damage or vandalism; storm or flood; escape of water; escape of fuel; falling radio or television aerials; and falling trees or branches (subject to the full policy terms).

£2 million of Public Liability Insurance is included automatically, covering you as the owner of the garage building for accidental bodily injury or accidental damage to third-party property.

What is not insured
This policy does not cover consequential loss of any kind; loss or damage caused gradually; impact damage caused by domestic pets; loss or damage caused by fire due to spontaneous combustion, fermentation, heating or any process involving the application of heat; loss or damage caused by escape of water from automatic sprinkler installations; or theft unless entry to and from the premises is gained by forcible and violent means.

The garage must not be used for business activities, commercial storage, motor trade activities, vehicle repair work, or any trade or profession.

The garage may be let to another individual for private domestic use only, provided it is not used for any business, trade or commercial purpose.

Are there any restrictions on cover?
A standard policy excess of £250 applies to each claim. Theft of external metalwork is insured up to a limit of £25,000 for any one claim.

Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary within this policy, within any endorsement to this policy or within any extension to this policy, this policy and its endorsements (if any) and its extensions (if any) exclude any loss, damage, liability, claim, cost or expense (whether such loss, damage, liability, claim, cost or expense has been suffered by an insured or a third party) of whatsoever nature, directly or indirectly caused by, contributed to by, resulting from, arising out of, in connection with, or otherwise in any way directly or indirectly attributable to:

  1. Coronaviruses; and
  2. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19); and
  3. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2); and
  4. any mutation of or variation of a), b) or c) above; and
  5. any infectious disease that is designated or treated as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation; and
  6. any fear or anticipation of a), b), c), d) or e) above, regardless of any other cause or event contributing concurrently or in any other sequence thereto.
